This is a Monday to Friday position during school hours, offering a consistent routine and a healthy work-life balance with no weekend work.

About the Role

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to support pupils who require additional behavioural and emotional support. The role may involve working on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, helping pupils to engage positively with learning and manage their behaviour in a structured, supportive way.

Pupils may present with SEMH needs, ADHD, autism, trauma-related behaviours, or other additional needs, so patience, adaptability and emotional resilience are essential.

You may be required to support pupils across primary and secondary age ranges, depending on the needs of the school.

Key Responsibilities
- Providing targeted behaviour support to pupils who struggle to regulate emotions
- Supporting pupils in the classroom to remain engaged and focused on learning
- Implementing behaviour support strategies and positive behaviour interventions
- De-escalating challenging situations calmly and safely
- Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils
- Supporting social skills, emotional regulation and coping strategies
- Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff
- Encouraging positive behaviour and promoting a safe learning environment
- Recording incidents, progress and feedback when required

Requirements

For this role, applicants must have:
- Previous experience working with children or young people displaying challenging behaviour
- Experience in a school setting (essential for this particular post)
- Confidence managing and responding to behavioural challenges
- A calm, consistent and resilient approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills

Preferred (but not essential):
- A Level 2 or above qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare, Youth Work, or a related field
- Experience working with SEMH needs or behaviour-focused roles
