The Role:
We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our service as a Business Manager (Employment Services) providing strategic leadership of Payroll, Pensions, HR Systems/Data and wider employee lifecycle support services.
This role will contribute directly to the delivery of the Council’s “Progress with Unity” vision and associated workforce and service transformation. A key priority of this role within the initial 12 months will be to identify ways in which we can digitally transform our service.
Day to day, the postholder will ensure the delivery of an accurate, timely, and legally compliant services to the Council and our wider customer base (e.g. schools and academies) and will ensure that service delivery is aligned with the "Team Wigan" behaviours and the “Progress with Unity - 6 Ways of Working."
About you:
You will ideally be qualified to CIPD Level 7 or CIPP Level 4/5 or have an equivalent level of proven experience relevant to the role and will have extensive experience of working at a senior level delivering HR and OD services focused on business/customer needs.
You will have fantastic leadership skills with the ability to harness the skills and talents of others and will have experience of managing teams directly.
You will have a proven ability to build relationships, and you’ll be able to work constructively by providing appropriate challenge with an ability to negotiate and influence others. You will be able to analyse complex information and be able to break down problems to deliver customer focused solutions.

The contractual hours for this post will be worked across a range of locations to meet the needs of the role and the service. Work will be carried out across Council buildings and/or community venues across the borough. It is our priority to ensure that the role is fulfilled effectively and while there is some flexibility to work from home when service delivery allows, the expectation is that staff will attend the workplace for a minimum of two days per week. However, depending on service requirements, you may be required to work your full contractual hours on site at Council buildings and/or community venues.
