Job Summary The core function of this post is to support the provision of safeguarding policy and procedure across the organisation. This includes working with staff from floor to board, our partners and partnership boards, to support the delivery of our statutory requirements. You will be a highly visible individual providing specialist knowledge, advice and clinical expertise to all staff in NUPAS in all areas of Safeguarding Adults and Children/Child Protection. This role will work collaboratively with regional teams and partner agencies to ensure that women who encounter services at NUPAS are safeguarded and their welfare is promoted. Together with the Named Doctor you will contribute to NUPASs Safeguarding Training plan and Safeguarding Supervision strategy. Duties and Responsibilities To ensure that NUPASs safeguarding procedures are regularly monitored, evaluated and reviewed to minimise risk. To carry out audits of safeguarding practice within NUPAS to ensure that vulnerable women and children are being safeguarded effectively. To provide expert professional advice and support regarding safeguarding to all clinical staff and employed staff within NUPAS. To ensure day-to-day safeguarding provision, support and advice is readily available and there are clear routes for who to contact when out of hours and during periods of leave. Oversight to ensure that high quality supervision is provided to clinical staff and that attendance is recorded and reported centrally. To work closely with the Named Doctor and Executive Safeguarding Lead to develop policy and practice. To ensure that NUPAS is represented at case conferences, strategy meetings and serious case reviews and staff who are required to attend are supported. To lead on NUPAS safeguarding training strategy and to ensure that systems are in place to audit training needs and monitor training attendance. To meet regularly with the Head of Nursing and the Executive Safeguarding Lead to facilitate reporting on safeguarding within NUPAS and identify any areas or systems which may place NUPAS at risk. To contribute to the Safeguarding annual report and contract reporting requirements. To update, review and implement NUPAS policies and procedures whilst ensuring they reflect evidence-based change in practice and those brought about by legislation/key guidance. To manage and participate in the management of safeguarding which includes triaging safeguarding emails, data collation and task management. To report on the position of Safeguarding to the Head of Nursing and the Executive Safeguarding Lead on a regular basis. To provide effective leadership in monitoring and evaluating standards of practice and working closely with service leads to ensure such standards are met. To contribute to Serious Case Reviews, ensuring that recommendations are implemented and audited. To contribute safeguarding expertise and advice to service improvement projects or development programmes. Work in close partnership with teams to ensure all local, corporate safeguarding targets are met and new guidance implemented appropriately. Where appropriate, represent NUPAS within the Integrated Care System, and with partner organisations, to institute integrated working in the best interests of patient care. To ensure own knowledge and understanding of the legislative framework/national guidance and local procedures and ensure disseminated appropriately To ensure the appropriate utilisation and development of evidence-based guidelines to improve safeguarding services. Keep up to date with emerging thinking / findings from other providers/national guidance. Support organisational audit and benchmarking activities, implementing changes where appropriate To always uphold and adhere to NUPAS Values and Strategic Objectives Plan and interpret own workload and that of others, adhering to policies, procedures and guidelines Use own judgement to define short, medium term and long-term work priorities Work unsupervised using own judgement and decision-making skills on day-to-day operational and strategic issues Maintain a professional work ethic and promote professionalism within the organisation To take part in the annual appraisal in line with the applied framework and have an appropriate and up to date PDP in place To adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct Manage and prioritise own workload To update own knowledge considering current research and practice To take responsibility for own development Attend professional meetings to maintain up to date clinical knowledge base Critically reflect on own performance through supervision/action learning Essential NMC Registered Nurse/Midwife Level 5 Safeguarding Supervision/training certification. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Demonstratable leadership abilities across professional boundaries Self-discipline and effective time management Teaching skills Safeguarding supervision expert experience. In-depth knowledge and practical experience of Compliance within Healthcare Experience of working with Womens Healthcare. Strong analytical skills along with the ability to translate data into meaningful conversations and actions for the Organisation A self-motivated team player who is comfortable working alone and as part of a wider team. Willingness to travel between national clinical locations to provide safeguarding supervision and training. Experienced in safeguarding audit Experience of inter-agency working Experience of working with pregnant women with complex medical/social needs Knowledge of current Safeguarding legislation/guidance/procedures Awareness of current professional issues within midwifery/Nursing/NHS Understanding of resource management, health and safety, clinical risk and quality issues Knowledge/understanding of confidentiality issues Awareness of equality and diversity Awareness of self-care strategies for self and others Supports a womans reproductive choices Desirable Experience of working in Abortion Services Full UK Driving License Confidentiality Employees must not make unauthorised copies or disclose confidential or commercially sensitive organisation information to unauthorised parties. Personal Property The organisation does not accept responsibility for personal property brought on to the organisations premises. Articles lost or found on organisation premises should be reported to a line manager. Cars are parked on the organisations property at your risk. Registered Healthcare Professionals All organisation employees who are required to register with a professional body, to enable them to practice within their profession, are required to comply with their code of conduct and requirements of their professional registration at all times. Safeguarding Responsibilities All staff have a responsibility to understand and adhere to the requirements of organisation policy and protocols when dealing with Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults. All employees must share the organisations commitment to protect, safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. Information Governance All staff have a responsibility to always ensure full compliance with Information Governance which includes data protection, confidentiality and information security. Staff need to understand and make themselves fully aware of all organisation policies and procedures related to information governance. Location This is a national based role. The office-based element of the role will be at our Head office in Birmingham or at one of our nationwide clinics. Travel expenses will be reimbursed inline with NUPAS expenses policy
