Summary
The role of the Senior Business Rates Officer , is to contribute to the day-to-day operation of the Business Rates Team, providing an efficient and effective service in the administration, collection, and recovery of business rates, in line with legislation and local policies and procedures.
Provide specialist advice and assistance to internal and external customers and colleagues through a variety of access channels including telephone, face to face, written and electronic mail.
Other duties will include:
The efficient and accurate determination of all correct liabilities, valuation changes and ensuring all charges, including transitional relief, where applicable, are correct and in accordance with the appropriate regulations, legislation, and guidance
Ensure all information received is correct and identify and report any cases of fraud
Carry out all day-to-day administrative activities in relation to applying the correct reliefs where appropriate and apply all exemptions as required
Undertaking and evidencing appropriate checks and responding to queries in accordance with the relevant legislation and requirements of the service
Responding to ratepayers’ correspondence in a timely manner and in accordance with the set KPI’s and performance standards
Allocating work and guiding the Business Rates Officers in the interpretation of both regulations and legislation in the absence of the Business Rates Team Leader
Undertake all necessary duties for the efficient recovery of Business Rates, including Enforcement Action, Bankruptcy, and Insolvency. Liaising with enforcement agencies, and other Council departments where required
Representing the authority at Court
Assisting with any other duties required in the collection and administration of the Business Rates including any statutory returns when required.
It is essential that the successful candidate has proven experience of Business Rates or Council Tax.
