Crynodeb
To provide data on quality performance, activity etc. to consultant laboratory staff, the Clinical Service Lead (and Group Manager as required). To safely handle, on a daily basis, use and dispose of biological samples such as blood, urine, faeces, other body tissue and hazardous chemicals. Working with biomedical scientists to ensure adherence to accreditation standards and contribute to the regular updating of accreditation documentation. Implement policy and service development in the department, and propose changes that will impact within the department, and on patient care and services outside the department. Ensure that quality assurance procedures are carried out and review performance. Undertake clinical validation and authorisation of laboratory reports, assessing the feasibility and clinical significance of results, ranging from those of routine individual tests to highly complex patterns of abnormal and changing results. To apply clinical and interpretive comments to laboratory reports as appropriate, and verbally communicate urgent, abnormal and life-threatening results to medical, nursing, other clinical staff and laboratory staff in other Trusts/hospitals where necessary. To provide written interpretative reports of specialist laboratory investigations. To be competent in the performance of highly specialised and complex manual laboratory procedures, requiring a high level of skill. To perform specialised complex analytical investigations, and also occasionally routine analytical investigations, for example in the absence of staff such as biomedical scientists who would normally perform such investigations. In conjunction with the Clinical Service Lead and Laboratory Manager ensure that breaches of Trust and National guidelines are reported via the Trust Incident Reporting systems.
