Scope and Range Operational Responsibilities Form an integral part of the Radiology Management team alongside the General Manager, CDC Imaging Manager, Radiology Workforce Lead, and the MR, CT, and X-Ray Modality Leads. Serve as the Lead Radiation Protection Supervisor ensuring compliance with IR(ME)R 2024 and IRR 2017 regulations. Lead on dose optimisation initiatives by chairing quarterly meetings and integrating updates into governance frameworks. Collaborate with Superintendent Radiographers and Modality Leads to maintain the Imaging Equipment Quality Assurance Programme and address non-compliance. Monitor and update local diagnostic reference levels, including conducting dose audits for compliance, in collaboration with the RPA. Manage the implementation and continuous improvement of quality measures and document management systems within Radiology. Coordinate the annual National Imaging Data collection and submission process. Support Clinical Governance and Risk Management strategies within the Radiology service. Act as a communication link between Radiology and Trust Corporate Governance. Lead quality improvement projects, especially those related to dose optimisation, and present findings. Maintain sufficient clinical work to uphold HCPC registration through ongoing professional development. Stay updated on local and national policies and legislation relevant to Radiology and communicate changes clearly. Ensure dissemination of quality information, including accreditation status, complaints, audit findings, and incidents at departmental and Health Care Group levels. Manage the use and review of Standard Operating Procedures and policies. Coordinate and lead the departmental audit programme, ensuring audit outcomes support service improvements. Aid the Accreditation Manager in their work to gain QSI accreditation and then ensure accreditation is maintained. Prepare quarterly newsletters and update departmental information boards. Coordinate service user and stakeholder surveys, analyse feedback, and recommend quality improvements. Facilitate external assessments and ensure compliance with visiting assessors’ requirements. Provide leadership, advice, and mentoring on quality issues across departments. Represent Radiology in senior management forums and Trust-wide governance meetings. Promote a continuous quality improvement culture with no blame learning. Assist in process mapping, procurement, business planning, and support change control processes. Manage information from audits and quality assessments regularly with the management team. Ensure compliance with Freedom of Information and Data Protection legislation in handling data. Perform other duties as required, consistent with the post’s grade and responsibilities. Participate in the departmental Duty Manager rota and the divisional Bronze rota. Lead the department in the implementation of Q-Pulse. Ensure regular attendance at the Patient Safety & Quality (PS&Q) forum as a standard practice, with attendance at the Imaging Management Group (IMG) by exception. Act as the primary liaison with Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) services, overseeing the tracking and completion of actions arising from the Medical Exposure Committee (MEC), Radiation Protection Committee (RPC), Dose Optimisation Group, and the annual Radiation Incident Group. Manage the dose badge monitoring programme, including distribution and collection of badges, investigation of high-dose incidents, coordination of classified workers, and maintenance of associated documentation and annual medical examinations. Training & Development Support clinical managers in staff training, induction, mentoring, and CPD monitoring. Promote understanding of quality management principles and provide related training to staff. Coordinate risk management and health & safety training. Monitor HCPC registrations and support staff professional development. Attend Trust education forums and relevant professional meetings to stay updated. Develop auditing, quality management, risk management, and mentoring skills within staff. Participate in annual performance and development reviews. Risk Management & Health & Safety Ensure adherence to the Trust’s Risk Management and Health & Safety policies within Radiology. Support audit of staff compliance with risk and safety procedures. Maintain training records for key safety areas and ensure knowledge application. Oversee reporting, investigation, and analysis of incidents, ensuring corrective actions. Maintain and update Radiology’s element of the Trust Risk Register. Conduct trend analysis on risks and incidents, sharing relevant information with staff. Manage responses to Safety Alerts (e.g., MHRA) and NICE guidance queries. Maintain up-to-date COSHH registers and coordinate with the Trust register. Identify and risk assess top clinical risks, ensuring inclusion in departmental and Trust registers. Carry out quarterly Health & Safety audits and report findings. Represent Radiology at the Trust Health & Safety Committee. Provide advice on Radiology-related health and safety issues to other departments and staff. Communication & Relationships Report to the General Manager for Radiology & Breast Imaging. Collaborate with clinicians and managers across directorates on quality matters. Represent Radiology at senior management and Patient Safety & Quality forums. Liaise with patient panels and service users to understand needs. Work closely with Clinical Governance and Risk teams.
