As a result, alongside several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty have been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.
Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Civil Quality Inspector to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.
What you'll be doing
• Conduct on-site inspections to ensure compliance with project specifications and quality standards. Monitor and evaluate construction materials, workmanship, and overall project quality
• Pre action inspections, witness testing, signing off and reporting thereof
• Identify and report any non-conformance issues, defects, or deviations from project plans
• Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations
• Maintain comprehensive inspection records and prepare detailed reports
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and site supervisors to implement quality control measures
• Conduct quality inspections and surveillance, recommend corrective actions when necessary
• Verify that completed work aligns with approved drawings and specifications
• Achieve Quality departmental KPI's
• Undertake assurance that the ITP is being followed and that requirements are being met
• Support the Quality team in dealing with external auditing governing bodies to maintain existing certification and continuous improvement
• Provide quality improvement performance measures and recommendations, and share best practice
• By using the principles of quality assurance, and where appropriate technical Integrity, ensure the customer requirements are clearly understood and that Quality Control mechanisms are in place that provide assurance that the asset and/or service delivers as designed/required
• Produce project and/or business quality reports as required
• Support the delivery of business stream quality programs and actions sist in training, coaching & developing quality skills in business streams
• Support the establishment of a continuous improvement culture
• Undertake specific investigations and/or report on quality related issues as required
• Drive efficiencies through early project involvement and explore options to provide lean construction by understanding customers’ needs and expectations
• Understand Lean principles and how to apply them in construction
• Seek to understand and implement the appropriate digital toolset to support the project governance and quality assurance/ measures on the projects

Who we're looking for
The following qualities/experience are essential:
- Competent digital skills
- Experience of civil engineering inspection
- Experience of working on a construction site
- Ability to build strong relationships with delivery teams and project managers
- Substantial practical experience in quality management in a relevant business environment
- Experience of building a quality management framework & KPI measurement
- Ability to gather, analyse and evaluate facts
- Pays attention to detail and sees things through to completion
- Can deliver reports orally and written in an objective and persuasive manner
- Has good interpersonal and communication skills and acts in an independent and professional manner with the ability to influence others including senior management
- Is a self-starter who manages their own time and seeks to add value to their function
- Has an enquiring and questioning approach to audit work
- Able to command respect across the business and work closely with the Business Efficiency team
- Good at building relationships and able to influence effectively
- Can demonstrate initiative and resilience
- Knowledge of the sector or experience within a project-based organisation
