Please see attached job description for full details Clinical duties of post holder The post holder will be based at MRI, with an office in the Rawnsley Building. They will be a senior member of the team providing medical leadership and clinical care to the patients referred to the MHLT. The post holder will be involved in assessing and managing referrals for patients over the age of 16 years. The team aims to have a can do attitude and works in a flexible manner to be as helpful as possible. The main objectives of the team are to provide high quality assessments and effective liaison between service providers in the Mental Health Trust and the Acute Hospital Trust. The service offers comprehensive psychiatric assessment, and further management if required whilst the patient remains an inpatient in Manchester Royal Infirmary and St Marys Hospital. The post holder will not take responsibility for the continuing care of all the patients referred. The team provides effective liaison between services which include Acute inpatient wards, Acute Adult Psychiatry inpatient wards, Community Mental Health teams, Home Treatment Service, Emergency Services at Manchester Royal Infirmary, Delivery Suites, Perinatal Psychiatry Services, Later Life Services and Elderly Care wards. The post holder will receive clinical supervision from Dr Vanessa Craig. There will always be a consultant present for ad hoc clinical supervision in Dr Craigs absence. The post holder will need to be Section 12 approved. They will be expected to become involved in Mental Health Act work as required. The post holder will be encouraged to engage in teaching and training of various members of the multidisciplinary team and provide clinical supervision to members of the team. The post holder will be expected to contribute to clinical audit and will be able to participate in research if they so wish. The post holder will be professionally accountable to the Clinical Director and operationally accountable to the Head of Operations. Cross cover for annual/study leave will be arranged with the Higher Trainees Training, educational and academic duties The post holder will provide input and supervision to undergraduates who will be attending sessions with the team as part of the UoM undergraduate programme. The post holder will participate in the Trust-wide postgraduate MRCPsych teaching programme held on a weekly basis. The post holder will be encouraged to get involved in Themed Case discussion teaching. Clinical governance and quality improvement The post holder is expected to contribute to clinical governance It is expected that the post holder will participate in clinical audit and quality improvement projects. It is expected that the post holder will participate in service evaluation and the planning of future service developments. General duties To manage, appraise and give professional supervision to junior medical staff/practitioners as agreed between consultant colleagues and in accordance with the Trusts personnel policies and procedures. To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients. To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively To participate in service and business planning activity for the directorate and, as appropriate, for the whole mental health service. To maintain a revalidation portfolio and participate in annual appraisal To attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme. To maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, Mental Health Act Section 12(2) approval, and to abide by professional codes of conduct. To participate annually in a job plan review with the Lead Consultant and Head of Operations, which will include consultation with a relevant manager in order to ensure that the post is developed to take into account changes in service configuration and delivery associated with modernisation. To work with local managers and professional colleagues in ensuring the efficient running of services, and share with consultant colleagues in the medical contribution to management.
