Job Title: Communication Support Worker (CSW)

Key Responsibilities:

Provide accurate and professional communication support for learners with hearing impairments and additional learning needs using modes of communication such as British Sign Language (BSL), Sign Supported English (SSE), lip-speaking, and written support.

Enable full access to lessons, tutorials, meetings, and extra-curricular activities by interpreting between spoken English and BSL.

Support learners both in academic and social settings, promoting integration with peers and encouraging independence, confidence, and self-advocacy.

Collaborate with teaching staff to anticipate lesson content and adapt specialist terminology.

Contribute to learners' support plans, EHCP reviews, and progress monitoring, providing feedback and supporting the review process.

Promote Deaf awareness and inclusive practices throughout the college community.

Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical boundaries at all times.
Skills & Experience:
-
Minimum of BSL Level 3 qualification or equivalent.

Significant experience in providing communication support in an educational setting.

Strong understanding of Deaf culture, inclusive practice, and communication strategies for learners with additional needs.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, parents/carers, and external agencies.

Good IT skills to create and adapt accessible learning materials.

Flexibility and resilience in supporting learners with a range of additional needs and behaviours.

An understanding of safeguarding, with a commitment to promoting equality and inclusion.

Enthusiastic, reliable, and self-motivated, with a passion for continuous professional development.
Additional Requirements:

Experience supporting students with learning disabilities or communication difficulties is highly desirable.

Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain).

Available for immediate interviews.
