The Learning Support Assistant (LSA) role is a crucial position within our educational environment, designed to provide comprehensive support for learners with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
LSAs work closely with teachers and senior staff to ensure all students can access learning activities and achieve their potential. This involves academic mentoring, supervising small groups, and establishing positive, constructive relationships with students based on their individual needs.
Key responsibilities include promoting inclusive practices, assisting with classroom organisation and administration, monitoring and recording student progress, managing student behaviour effectively, and contributing to the pastoral life of the academy. The role requires a dedicated individual with excellent interpersonal skills, a commitment to safeguarding, and the flexibility to work across different learning environments within the school.
Job Purpose
To undertake work/care/support programmes, enabling access to learning for learners with SEN. The role involves assisting the teacher in classroom management and working independently with small groups of students within the learning bases or outside the main teaching area.Key Duties and Responsibilities
Provide academic mentoring and supervise learners with SEN, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
Establish constructive relationships with learners, promoting inclusion, acceptance, self-esteem, and independence.
Monitor learner responses and provide detailed, regular feedback to teachers on progress and any problems encountered.
Promote good learner behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with academy policy, and establish de-escalation routines.
Support the use of ICT in learning activities and help prepare, maintain, and use equipment/resources.
Provide clerical/administrative support to the SEN department, such as photocopying and filing.
Assist with the supervision of learners out of lesson times and accompany teaching staff on school visits and activities.
Act as a role model and provide pastoral support when required, including leading enrichment activities.
Person Specification (Essential Requirements)
Qualifications: Level 3 Qualification in a relevant subject; GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths at grade C or above.
Experience: Relevant work-based professional experience and an understanding of behaviour for learning and barriers to learning.
Skills: Ability to create an inclusive ethos, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, good literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills.

Salary: FTE £25,989 - £26,824 (Actual salary £23,487 - £22,756, prorated to 39 weeks per year). This is a term-time only opportunity
