Who we are
Rated a top three modern University in London, we provide an engaging portfolio of apprenticeships, short courses, undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. We have a sprawling estate across 50 acres, 3 sites and over 80 different buildings, ranging from new builds, to grade 1 listed buildings from the 1800’s with lots of green spaces. The central estates team is crucial to the ongoing utilization and upkeep of the estate we are rightly proud of.
The Role
We’re recruiting an Estates Maintenance Technician to join our customer‑focused maintenance team within Estates & Campus Services. This is an exciting time to join as we support the University’s strategy and ensure a safe, reliable and comfortable campus for students and staff and shortly embark on our estates masterplan to revive our estate.
Key responsibilities will include:
•Providing a customer‑centric, flexible and responsive maintenance service, delivering high‑quality resolutions to issues raised via the ServiceDesk and meeting agreed SLAs.
•Undertaking multi‑trade repairs across carpentry, electrical, plumbing and basic HVAC; performing routine inspections and planned preventative maintenance to reduce failures and extend asset life.
•Monitoring building systems (lighting, heating, ventilation, water) and ensuring compliance with health & safety regulations and safe use of tools, equipment and PPE.
The successful candidate will have skills and experience in:
•A qualification in Construction/Building Services/Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or significant relevant experience (ideally supported by professional membership).
•Practical capabilities across carpentry, plumbing, electrical diagnostics (to 240V), and building‑fabric repairs; first‑line fault finding on heating/ventilation plant and controls.
•Strong customer service, communication and teamwork; able to prioritise, work from own initiative, and use Microsoft Office tools.
If you have any specific questions on the role, please contact Chris Barnett, Head of Maintenance and Facilities.
The University is committed to promoting diversity and equality of opportunity and aims to create a culture and environment where students and staff are treated fairly. The University is an equal opportunities and ‘disability confident’ employer.
Professional Services/Support staff have access to the Local Government Pension Scheme. Our full range of benefits are available here.
The closing date for completed applications is: 27th February 2026
It is expected that interviews will be held in person on 19th or 20th March 2026
You are encouraged to apply promptly, as we reserve the right to close the role and interview before the dates stated above. Visa Sponsorship is not available for this role. Candidates who apply for this role must already hold the legal right to work in the UK
