Waste Operative

Narberth - Full time

As a Waste Operative with Sodexo, you'll enhance the services of our vibrant corporate site, offering a helping hand to ensure flawless facilities operations and keep things running smoothly.

What you'll do:

  • Collect a variety of waste streams — including manufacturing, domestic and recyclable materials — from departments and buildings across the site.
  • Ensure waste is correctly segregated and encourage recycling in line with site policies.
  • Operate site machinery such as ride‑on sweepers, forklifts and waste‑handling equipment.
  • Carry out daily safety checks on forklifts and equipment, reporting any issues to the Waste Team Leader.
  • Perform minor repairs to waste bins and equipment using basic hand tools.
  • Maintain security and safety of waste containers, reporting any leaks or hazards immediately and following safe systems of work.
  • Clean waste bins, containers, machinery, workshops, plant rooms and external yard areas.
  • Move materials and equipment across the site to support operations.
  • Respond to scheduled tasks and ad‑hoc requests in line with company policy.
  • Identify and report any waste disposal issues, incorrect waste handling or potential fire and security risks.
  • Comply with all Health & Safety, COSHH and safe‑working procedures, wearing required protective clothing.
  • Undertake any training needed to support competence and compliance.

What you'll bring:

  • Experience in waste operations or a similar environment, with a solid understanding of waste handling processes.
  • A valid Forklift Truck licence and confidence operating site machinery such as sweepers and material‑handling equipment.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, managers and site users.
  • A proactive and safety‑focused approach, following Health & Safety, COSHH and safe systems of work at all times.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, with the ability to identify waste‑related issues, hazards or non‑compliance and escalate appropriately.
  • A practical mindset, able to carry out minor repairs using simple hand tools.
  • Reliability and a positive work ethic, with the flexibility to respond to both scheduled and ad‑hoc tasks.
  • Teamwork and self‑motivation, contributing to a high‑standard, efficient and compliant waste service across the site.
