Everest Recruitment and Services Ltd is supporting a Public sector client via an approved DPS route with the recruitment of a Head of Finance – Technical permanently.
This is a senior leadership opportunity within local government, offering the chance to provide strategic financial leadership during a period of significant organizational change, including Local Government Reorganization (LGR) across Suffolk.
ROLE DETAILS
• Role: Head of Finance – Technical
• Location: Ipswich (Hybrid – minimum 1 day per week onsite)
• Contract: Permanent | Full-time (37 hours per week)
• Salary: £63,092 – £67,853
• Additional: Potential designation as Deputy Section 151 Officer (+ £5,000 allowance)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead the Council’s Technical Finance function
• Provide strategic leadership across:
• Statutory accounting
• Treasury management
• Taxation and financial compliance
• Lead year-end closure of accounts and production of the Statement of Accounts
• Act as a principal financial advisor to senior leadership, the Executive, and Committees
• Liaise with External Audit
• Line manage senior finance staff and provide strategic direction across technical, treasury, insurance, income, and payments teams
• Identify opportunities for innovation, compliance improvement, and financial risk mitigation
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
• Fully qualified finance professional (CIPFA / ACCA / CIMA / ACA or equivalent)
• Strong leadership and people management skills
• Proven experience delivering high-quality technical/statutory finance services
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Local government or public-sector finance experience (highly desirable)
