Behaviour Teaching Assistant (Performing Arts Background)
Islington
£112-£115 per day | Part-Time (Wednesday-Friday) | Term-Time Only | Long-Term

In a performing arts school, students express themselves boldly - through movement, music, drama, and sometimes through behaviour when emotions feel too big to manage.

Some young people walk into school carrying more than their costume or script. They carry pressure, anxiety, or experiences that come out in challenging ways. What looks like "difficult behaviour" is often a form of communication.

We're working with a creative secondary Performing Arts school in Islington who are looking for a part-time Behaviour Teaching Assistant (Wednesday to Friday) with a background in the performing arts. Someone who understands expression, emotion, and energy - and knows how to channel it positively.

This role is ideal for someone who values creativity, understands emotional regulation, and wants to be a steady, trusted adult for students who need additional behavioural and emotional support.

* Supporting students 1:1 or in small groups who struggle with behaviour, regulation, or engagement
* Using creative approaches to help students express emotions in healthier ways
* Acting as a calm, grounding presence during moments of dysregulation
* Helping students reset, reflect, and re-engage with learning or rehearsals
* Supporting pupils in classrooms and practical spaces such as drama studios and performance areas
* Working closely with pastoral staff, SENCOs, and teachers to provide consistent support
* Encouraging confidence, responsibility, and positive self-expression
* Celebrating progress - even when it comes in small but meaningful steps

* Have a background in drama, dance, music, theatre, or performing arts
* Stay calm under pressure and don't take behaviour personally
* Have experience in youth work, mentoring, SEN, SEMH, PRUs, or similar settings (desirable but not essential)
* Can balance empathy with clear, consistent boundaries
* Believe behaviour is communication, not defiance
* Are looking for a part-time role where you can make a real difference

This role isn't about "fixing" behaviour - it's about understanding it, supporting regulation, and helping young people find positive ways to express themselves, both in school and on stage.

If this sounds like something you'd thrive in, we'd love to hear from you
