Level 2 Apprentice Production Chef
Location: The Castle School, Taunton
Contract: Apprenticeship (Level 2 Production Chef)
Hours: 36 hours per week (Monday in college and Tuesday to Friday in school)
Working Times: 7:00am – 3:00pm with a 30-minute unpaid break
Start Date: As soon as possible
Apprentice Rate for the first year - £7.55 per hour, rising to £8.00 per hour from 1st April 2026.
Actual starting salary - £14,172
Fixed term until the completion of end point assessment (typically 12 months)
Are you passionate about food and looking to kick start your career in catering? We’re excited to offer an opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our school kitchen team as a Level 2 Apprentice Production Chef.
This is a fantastic chance to gain hands-on experience in a busy, friendly school environment while studying towards a nationally recognised qualification.
What You’ll Be Doing
As an Apprentice Production Chef, you will:
• Support the preparation and cooking of healthy, balanced meals for students, staff and visitors
• Assist with daily kitchen tasks including food prep, service, and cleaning
• Learn to follow nutrition and safety standards required for school catering
• Work as part of a supportive, experienced kitchen team
• Develop practical, professional chef skills that prepare you for a career in catering
This role also offers wider opportunities to be involved across our Trust, learning from a supportive, experienced and highly skilled Catering Manager who can help you to grow and develop to your full potential.
