About the Role
Luma Education Recruitment are recruiting on behalf of one of our clients, a small but rapidly expanding SEN school in Coventry, who are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their growing team.
The school supports pupils aged 7–18, with the majority of learners working at a primary curriculum level. This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs in a structured, nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Support pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis
Assist the class teacher in delivering a primary-level curriculum
Support children with a range of Special Educational Needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and associated learning needs
Help create a safe, calm, and positive learning environment
Implement behaviour support strategies in line with school policies
Encourage pupil engagement, independence, and social development
Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
Support pupils with personal, emotional, or behavioural needs where required
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and wider school staff
Essential Requirements
Experience working with children or young people, ideally within an SEN or school setting
A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
Desirable Experience
Previous experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or Support Worker
Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, ASD, or complex needs
Team Teach or other behaviour support training (desirable but not essential)
