Crynodeb

We’re looking for someone with a love of history and an eye for detail, who’s friendly and open with people. This role is about looking after a historic house and its collections of precious objects, furniture and works of art. And it’s about presenting all of this to people visiting, and helping to make every person’s day memorable and enjoyable.

For this role, you’ll need to complete our online assessment instead of using a C.V. or online application form. This will help us understand more about your strengths and give you more information on the role.

What it's like to work here
Hatchlands Park was built in the 1750s for naval hero Admiral Edward Boscawen and his wife Frances. Since then, it has been a family home, a finishing school and even housed a printing press. Since the 1980s, Hatchlands has been home to Alec Cobbe and his amazing collections of keyboard instruments, paintings and fine furniture.

The parkland and Cafe are open 363 days of the year. The house is open 6 days per week from March, with 7 day opening in July and August, and December. The house is closed in November, January and February.

Hatchlands Park forms a portfolio of three properties along with Clandon Park situated 2.5 miles away in West Clandon and Polesden Lacey situated 7 miles away in Great Bookham. We work closely together so there may be times when you are asked to help at one of the other houses.

The Hatchlands house team is a team of 6, covering 7 days a week between us. You will be mostly working Wednesdays and Fridays, with every third Sunday.

What you'll be doing
As a Collections Assistant, you’ll be working with a great housekeeping team in an incredible place, helping with the day-to-day cleaning and care of the collections. No detail will go unnoticed, and you’ll keep a keen eye on everything from the environmental conditions in a room, to signs of wear and tear. You’ll keep accurate records too. You'll be helping to open up the house to visitors, making sure everything is just right for their visit and that we're presenting the house in the best possible way. You'll work alongside our conservation volunteers, and our volunteer Room Guides, as well as helping with daily volunteer briefings and covering lunch breaks when needed.

In this visitor facing role, we’d love you to talk to visitors about the work you’re doing, and the collections we have. You'll also be part of the wider team of employees and volunteers, helping to cover where necessary.

Please also read the full role profile, attached to this advert.
