Your new role
As a Solution Architect, you will play a key role in designing end‑to‑end technical solutions that enable business growth and support long‑term product strategy. You'll work with product owners, engineering teams and third‑party vendors to turn requirements into high‑level designs, ensuring every solution aligns with architectural principles, security standards, performance expectations and the organisation's target state architecture.
Key responsibilities include
- Owning the solution architecture for complex systems made up of multiple components and maintaining the Architecture Definition Documentation.
- Guiding engineering and delivery teams, both internal and external, to ensure solution designs meet quality, scalability, security and architectural standards.
- Working with product and system owners to define solutions that address both functional and non‑functional requirements such as performance, accessibility, security and resilience.
- Leading design reviews, supporting technical governance processes and preparing materials for architectural board submissions.
- Providing technical oversight, coaching and hands‑on leadership to engineering teams and external partners, ensuring consistent adoption of best practices.
- Supporting the organisation's journey toward a unified enterprise architecture by contributing to framework strategies and long‑term capability development.
- Communicating complex technical concepts in clear, accessible language and supporting delivery teams through build, testing and deployment phases.
This is a highly influential position where you will shape architectural direction, improve engineering quality and play a meaningful role in the ongoing digital evolution of the organisation.
What you'll need to succeed
To excel in this role, you'll bring a strong combination of technical expertise, strategic thinking and the ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
Essential experience and skills:
- A deep understanding of technology landscapes, including application architecture, integration, data design and industry best practices.
- Proven experience operating as a Solution or Application Architect within a complex global organisation.
- Strong knowledge of cloud technologies, particularly AWS.
- Hands‑on experience guiding engineering teams and ensuring consistent, high‑quality delivery.
- Solid understanding of Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban and SAFe, along with experience providing technical leadership within agile environments.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical issues into clear, business‑friendly language.
- A strong problem‑solving mindset, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and navigate ambiguity.
- Degree‑level education in a relevant technology field, or equivalent experience.
Desirable:
- Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, software containers (such as Docker) and Behaviour‑Driven Development.
- Experience in digital publishing or other technology‑driven industries.
