Summary

Nursery Teacher (Maternity Cover) – Barnet

We are currently recruiting for a committed, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic Nursery Teacher to join a friendly and supportive early years team at a well-regarded setting in Barnet. This is a full-time maternity cover role, starting from 6th March, for an initial period of 6 to 9 months, with the potential for extension should suitable vacancies become available within the school.

This role is ideal for an experienced Early Years professional who is confident in delivering high-quality provision, building strong relationships with young learners, and working collaboratively within a well-established team.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will take responsibility for teaching within a Nursery class of 30 pupils, supported by two strong and experienced Teaching Assistants who play an active role in supporting learning, behaviour, and daily routines.

You will act as Key Worker for a group of 16 children, ensuring that their academic, social, and emotional development is closely monitored and supported. This includes maintaining accurate observations, assessments, and learning journeys in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.

The role requires a teacher who can confidently manage an Early Years classroom, establish clear routines, and create a warm, engaging, and inclusive learning environment where children feel safe, supported, and motivated to learn.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging lessons and activities in line with the EYFS framework.
Provide a nurturing and stimulating learning environment that supports all areas of child development.
Act as Key Worker for up to 16 pupils, completing observations, assessments, and progress tracking.
Use assessment information effectively to inform planning and support individual learning needs.
Work closely with Teaching Assistants to ensure consistent support and effective classroom organisation.
Promote positive behaviour and support children’s emotional and social development.
Build and maintain positive relationships with parents and carers, providing updates where appropriate.
Ensure safeguarding, health, and safety procedures are followed at all times.
Contribute to team meetings, planning sessions, and wider school activities.
Maintain high professional standards in line with school policies and expectations.

Person Specification:

The ideal candidate will:
Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Have previous experience teaching within an Early Years or Nursery setting.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of the EYFS framework and early childhood development.
Have experience working as a Key Worker and managing learning journeys.
Be confident working in a busy Early Years environment.
Work effectively as part of a collaborative team alongside support staff.
Demonstrate strong organisation, communication, and classroom management skills.
Show a caring, patient, and child-centred approach to teaching.
Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
