Nottingham Playhouse is seeking an exceptional Director of Producing to lead the delivery of our produced programme and play a
pivotal role in shaping the artistic and commercial future of our work.
Reporting to the Chief Executive and Artistic Director, this senior leadership role is responsible for overseeing productions from
feasibility through to realisation, touring, transfer and future life, ensuring work is delivered to the highest artistic
standards and within agreed budgets and timeframes.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the producing function for Nottingham Playhouse productions, including commissions, R&D, co-productions, tours,
transfers and one-off community and participation projects
• Line-produce selected productions and oversee others delivered by the Producer
• Proactively develop and manage relationships with commercial and subsidised co-producers, including international partners
• Oversee commissioning agreements, performance rights, licensing and intellectual property exploitation
• Work with the Executive and Production Manager to oversee seasonal planning, scheduling, budgeting and cash flow
• Ensure projects are delivered efficiently, on time and within agreed financial and practical parameters
• Take responsibility for identifying and securing future life opportunities for productions
• Line manage the Producer and Programme Coordinator, supporting development and effective delivery
• Oversee the smooth administration of the visiting programme
• Act as a senior ambassador for Nottingham Playhouse at industry events and networks
• Serve as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, supporting safeguarding practice across the programme
Person Specification
Essential:
• Significant senior-level producing experience within a professional theatre or live performance organisation
• Proven track record of delivering high-quality theatre productions from feasibility to realisation
• Substantial experience of line-producing, including commissioning, R&D, touring, transfers and co-productions
• Demonstrable experience of working with commercial and subsidised co-producers
• Strong experience of managing production budgets, schedules and cash flow
• Experience of managing and exploiting intellectual property and securing future life opportunities
• Line management experience, with the ability to lead, mentor and support producing staff
• In-depth knowledge of UK theatre producing practice, union agreements and licensing frameworks
• Strong understanding of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and safeguarding responsibilities
• Ability to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends
Desirable:
• Experience of international touring or international co-productions
• Experience of West End transfers
• Experience of artist development, participation or community-led projects
• Experience of reporting to Boards or Trustees
