Job Title Clinical Triage and Minor Illness Clinician Base Westrop Medical Practice (Moredon Surgery) Salary £27 to £30 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications Contract Permanent, 20 hours per week Hours Flexible sessional working, with cover required on Mondays and Fridays Job Summary Westrop Medical Practice is seeking an experienced clinician to undertake a clinical triage and minor illness role within our multidisciplinary team. The postholder will manage a defined range of low-acuity presentations that are routinely directed away from GP appointments, supporting safe access and effective use of clinical capacity across the practice. The role combines autonomous clinical assessment, treatment, and decision-making within scope of practice, with close collaboration with GPs and the wider clinical team. Main Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Assessment and Management Assess and manage patients presenting with common acute conditions such as urinary tract infections, rashes, minor infections, and similar low-acuity presentations. Undertake consultations face to face and/or remotely as required by the service. Provide treatment, advice, and safety-netting in line with agreed protocols and guidance. Prescribe medications where qualified and appropriate, within scope of practice. Identify red flags and escalate promptly to a GP or appropriate service when required. Triage and Access Support Work closely with the reception team, who will book patients directly into the role to support appropriate appointment allocation. Provide clinical input where needed to support safe navigation of patients to the correct clinician or service. Contribute to protecting GP capacity by managing suitable minor illness demand. Communication and Team Working Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, pharmacists, paramedics, and administrative staff. Communicate clearly with patients regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, and follow-up. Maintain professional and effective working relationships across the practice. Governance and Record Keeping Maintain clear, accurate, and contemporaneous clinical records. Work in accordance with practice policies, local pathways, and national guidance. Participate in audit, learning, and service improvement activity as required. Maintain professional registration, revalidation, and mandatory training. Person Specification Essential Registered healthcare professional (NMC or HCPC etc). Significant post-registration clinical experience. Experience in managing minor illness presentations. Ability to work autonomously and make safe clinical decisions. Strong communication and documentation skills.Desirable Non-medical prescribing qualification (or working towards), within agreed scope of practice. Experience working in general practice, urgent care, or community settings. Experience supporting access, triage, or demand management models.
