The Band 6 Nurse for Education and Governance plays a key role in ensuring the delivery of safe, highquality, evidencebased care for babies, children, and young people accessing hospice services. This role combines advanced clinical practice with teaching, supervision, and governance responsibilities. You will be expected to work a mixture of clinical shifts and educator shifts to support the team to consolidate their skills. You will support the development of the clinical team through structured education, competency assessment, and ongoing professional development. Alongside this, you will contribute to the hospices governance framework, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting incident management, and driving continuous improvement across the service. Key Responsibilities Clinical Practice Provide expert clinical care to BCYP with complex health needs, including those requiring: Noninvasive ventilation (NIV) Longterm ventilation (LTV) Parenteral nutrition (PN) Deliver safe and competent tracheostomy care, gastrostomy and jejunostomy care, and emergency interventions. Administer IV and subcutaneous medications safely and in line with hospice policies. Demonstrate proficiency in drug administration and complex drug calculations. Provide compassionate, skilled endoflife and bereavement care to children and families. Act as a clinical role model, promoting best practice and maintaining high standards of care. Education & Training Teach, supervise, and assess staff competency in complex clinical skills, adapting teaching styles to meet diverse learning needs. Support new starters, students, and less experienced staff through structured learning plans and signoff processes. Ensure all staff have equitable access to learning opportunities. Maintain accurate records of training, competency assessments, and clinical supervision. Governance & Quality Contribute to the hospices governance agenda, including: Oversight of audits and participation in the audit cycle Incident reporting, investigation, and learning dissemination Safeguarding processes and escalation Policy development, review, and research Maintaining regulatory compliance, including CQC readiness Support teams to deliver consistently highquality care and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Promote a culture of safety, reflection, and accountability. Professional Responsibilities Work flexibly across days, nights, and weekends to support service needs and training requirements. Demonstrate reliability and consistency, recognising the importance of signoffs, supervision, and clinical oversight. Maintain own professional development and revalidation requirements. Uphold hospice values and contribute positively to the multidisciplinary team.
