Combined post for Director of Nursing and Experienced Practice Nurse / Advanced Nurse Practitioner Hours: 12 hours/week (Director of Nursing) plus 25.5 hours/week Clinical (Practice Nurse/ANP) Location: St Andrews or XX Place Health Centre Contract Length: Director of Nursing Post is 12 month Fixed Term Salary: Band 8c + Band 7/8a (depending on experience) We are seeking an exceptional and motivated senior nurse leader to join our organisation in a unique combined role. This post brings together strategic leadership responsibilities as Director of Nursing (Band 8c) with a hands on clinical position as either a Senior Practice Nurse (Band 7) or Advanced Nurse Practitioner (Band 8a) depending on qualifications and experience. This role offers a rare opportunity to lead, shape, and strengthen nursing services across our four practice sites, ensuring consistently high standards of safe, person centred and effective care. This post is open to experienced Practice Nurses ready to step into strategic leadership, or Advanced Nurse Practitioners with established leadership experience looking to progress into an organisational-level role. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior clinician who enjoys both strategic oversight and direct patient care, and who wishes to contribute to high quality service delivery within a supportive, forward thinking primary care environment. About the Role Director of Nursing (Band 8c) 12 hours per week (Fixed-Term for 12 months) You will provide senior clinical leadership across the organisation, working closely with the executive/management team to ensure high standards of nursing practice, quality, and patient safety. Key responsibilities include: Leading the nursing workforce and supporting professional development Overseeing clinical governance, quality assurance, and risk management Contributing to organisational strategy and regulatory compliance Championing evidence-based practice and continuous improvement Supporting workforce planning, recruitment, and retention initiatives Provide inspiring leadership to the nursing and clinical teams. Oversee nurse education, development, and workforce planning. Support innovation, clinical effectiveness, and service improvement. Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks and uphold the highest standards of patient care. Work collaboratively with the Senior Management Team, GPs, and multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver strategic priorities. Practice Nurse (Band 7) or Advanced Nurse Practitioner (Band 8a) 25.5 hours per week Depending on your experience and qualifications, you will undertake either a Senior Practice Nurse or Advanced Nurse Practitioner role. Practice Nurse (Band 7) Responsibilities: Routine treatment room duties (wound care, cervical cytology, vaccinations, long-term conditions support) Health promotion and chronic disease management (diabetes, COPD, hypertension, Heart Failure, Mental Health) Supporting QOF and practice wide clinical objectives Delivering high quality, patient centred care Advanced Nurse Practitioner (Band 8a) Responsibilities: Providing autonomous clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management Acute presentations and same day appointment provision Prescribing (independent prescriber qualification required) Management of complex long-term conditions Contributing to clinical leadership within the practice Who Were Looking For We welcome applicants who meet the criteria for the combined role and are passionate about both clinical care and strategic leadership. Essential: Registered Nurse (NMC) with significant experience in primary care. Significant senior leadership experience in healthcare Proven record of improving clinical standards and supporting nursing teams Confident in leading teams, influencing change, and improving clinical services. Skilled in clinical governance, quality assurance, and patient safety. Strong communicators with a collaborative, compassionate approach. Confident managing both operational and strategic responsibilities. Leadership or supervisory experience is essential; prior senior management experience is desirable but not essential for exceptional candidates.
