What skills and experience we're looking for
This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced individual to take on an important and highly visible role at Longbenton High School, a popular and heavily oversubscribed 11–18 school with a vibrant Sixth Form and exceptional modern facilities.
Due to the retirement of the current postholder, we are seeking to recruit a proactive and experienced Site Manager to lead the operational management of the school’s premises and facilities. This key role ensures that the site is safe, secure, clean and well maintained at all times, creating a positive environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
The successful candidate will lead and manage the caretaking and cleaning teams, overseeing rotas, attendance and performance, and ensuring that all safeguarding, health and safety, and security procedures are rigorously followed. Reporting directly to the Business Manager, the Site Manager will provide effective leadership of the site team and work closely with colleagues and external partners, including PFI contractors.
The postholder will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the site, monitoring the condition of buildings and grounds, coordinating maintenance and improvement works, and ensuring compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation. They will also act as a trusted key holder, demonstrating a strong commitment to site security and the safety of all site users.

They will also act as a trusted key holder, demonstrating a strong commitment to site security and the safety of all site users.
In addition, the Site Manager will oversee out-of-hours lettings, including bookings, site access and supervision, and will coordinate the setup of rooms for examinations and school events. Strong organisational, communication and IT skills are essential, alongside a practical, solution-focused approach.
We are looking for an inspirational, self-motivated individual with previous site or facilities management experience and a proven ability to manage staff. The successful candidate will have experience of project management, report writing, troubleshooting and building effective working relationships. They will demonstrate professionalism, flexibility and a commitment to delivering services of the highest quality.
Due to the nature of the role, flexibility is required. This includes responding to emergency call-outs outside of school hours, attending some evening events, and liaising with the senior team to ensure appropriate site cover during school holiday periods while maintenance and project work is undertaken.
The current postholder will provide a two-week handover prior to retirement. Training in PFI systems and relevant health and safety requirements will also be provided.
Longbenton High School is a fully inclusive school where opportunity is championed and background is never a barrier to success. We are proud of our traditional values: kindness, integrity, determination, manners, ambition and positivity.
Longbenton High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check. We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates, regardless of protected characteristics
