Summary


St Georges Neonatal care is proud to have achieved level 3 Unicef Neonatal Baby Friendly Accreditation. The post holder will be instrumental in assistance with maintaining accreditation status.



The Job will involve supporting the Infant feeding lead to maintain and uphold the baby friendly standards on the neonatal unit through supporting all families beyond discharge and assisting in teaching of staff.
1. Support mothers on the neonatal unit with hand expressing.
2. Supporting mothers with pumping and to loan out pumps when needed.
3. To undertake expressing and feeding assessments when due and support nursing staff in this.
4. To promote breastfeeding on the unit, educating families on the short and long term benefits for both mother and baby.
5. To support families with bottle feeding if it is their wish to do so. To advise on positioning and encourage response feeding.
6. Support families on the antenatal/postnatal ward
7. To work with the infant feeding lead to ensure all new staff carry out their orientation and complete their full and half day infant feeding study days.
8. To also assist the infant feeding lead to ensure all existing staff carry out their yearly mandatory infant feeding study days.
9. To work with the infant feeding lead to complete parents, staff and environmental audit
10. To work with the Infant feeding lead and other nursery nurses with recruiting, processing potential donors and donated milk.
11. To be able to work within the milk bank and have good understanding of the process of pasteurisation and documentation.
