Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) is seeking an experienced, strategic Laboratory Services Director to lead the Cambridge Genomics Laboratory — the lead laboratory for the East Genomic Medicine Service (GMS), supporting genomic testing for 29 NHS Trusts across the East Midlands and East of England.

This senior role offers a rare opportunity to join CUH during a period of rapid innovation in genomic medicine. You will oversee high‑quality, resilient laboratory services across cancer, haematology‑oncology, rare disease and population health, maintaining strong performance, quality and patient outcomes.

Reporting to the East GMS Director of Operations, you will be part of a multidisciplinary leadership team spanning clinical engagement, capacity and growth, operational delivery, data and digital. You will also work closely with research partners and lead a service development team to drive change, embed new ways of working and support continuous improvement.

You will be a senior laboratory and operational leader with the credibility, vision and drive to lead a complex genomics service. Strong performance and financial management skills, collaborative leadership, and a commitment to quality, safety and patient‑centred care are essential, along with a passion for innovation and continuous Improvement


· Provide operational leadership of the Cambridge Genomics Laboratory, ensuring high-quality, timely and safe service delivery.

· Ensure strong operational performance and continuous improvement across capacity, quality, productivity and turnaround times.

· Oversee the Service Delivery team responsible for implementing changes and improvements within the laboratory.

· Contribute as a member of the senior leadership team, guiding the strategic development of genomics testing at CUH and across the East region.

· Build strong partnerships with key stakeholders locally, regionally and nationally, including across the East GMS network.

· Hold budget authority for the laboratory and drive sustainable, high-value service delivery.

· Provide operational oversight of contracted genomic testing services across the East GMS network, ensuring performance and governance.

· Support service development and research by enabling flexible laboratory capacity to meet clinical demand and variable project needs.

· Inspire and support a highly skilled multidisciplinary workforce.
