Summary

We are looking to register a Director of Midwifery & Deputy Chief Nurse who can lead and advocate for safe, high quality maternity care, managing the strategic and operational delivery of maternity services locally
The Director of Midwifery & Deputy Chief Nurse at CUH is a key position, accountable to the Chief Nurse for the strategic planning of maternity services and the day to day delivery of high standards of provision of midwifery care, the provision of strategic, professional leadership and advice, and acting as both an advocate for women and the expert voice of the profession. The role will have a prime focus on the delivery of high standards of women-centred care across integrated care pathways and services in the Rosie Hospital and the local community.
The Director of Midwifery & Deputy Chief Nurse will work in partnership across the Integrated Care System, building strong relationships with key stakeholders including the Regional Chief Midwife, maternity providers, regulators, Royal Colleges and system partners. The role will lead the delivery of national maternity policy across Cambridge University Hospitals and the wider system, shaping a long‑term strategic vision that delivers high‑quality, sustainable services and improved outcomes and experiences for women and families.
Accountable to the Chief Nurse, the post holder will work closely with the Head of Midwifery to provide divisional leadership for maternity services, including workforce planning, recruitment and retention, service development, quality improvement and patient experience, within agreed objectives, quality standards and resources. The role is central to ensuring safe, timely and compassionate care for women.
As Deputy Chief Nurse, the post holder will hold a corporate portfolio, including leading the inclusivity agenda across nursing and midwifery, and will deputise for the Chief Nurse as required.
