Summary
About the role Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust invites applications for these high quality and exciting posts, which have been designed primarily for trainees who have successfully completed their FY2 placements and wish to complete a CST equivalent training within Surgery. These posts are an ideal steppingstone for trainees between their FY2 and Specialty training posts and offer opportunities for applicants to develop skills and experience in other areas such as medical education and quality/service improvement. Our posts combine education and career development with practical patient-facing care. These posts are also suitable for trainees who wish to build their portfolios before applying for national core training rotations. The post holders will be eligible for completion of certificate of equivalence of core training. This certificate will allow trainees to apply for national specialty training programmes (STR) of their choice. Each post holder will be assigned an educational supervisor and are expected to achieve all core training competencies set out by the ISCP. Trainees will be appointed at CT1 level and may be eligible to continue for a second year at CT2 level subject to a satisfactory Annual Review of Competency Progression (ARCP). Main duties Post holders will participate on a full shift rota. They will work in collaboration with and under the direction of the Consultants and other members of the teams in the day-to-day management of patients within the service. Duties include ward rounds, assisting the consultants and senior trainees in the operating theatre, undertaking the pre- and post-operative care of patients on the wards, attending out-patient clinics and attending to referrals in the Emergency Department. The post holders will have the opportunity to attend departmental teaching every week. They will also be encouraged to undertake continuing medical education and study leave will be available as per the Trust policy. Essential person specification requirements To meet the requirements of this role, applicants must demonstrate the following essential criteria: Holds full GMC registration Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS, MBBS) degree or other equivalent medical qualification Foundation Programme Certificate of Completion (FPCC) from a UK affiliated foundation programme or completed CREST form prior to commencing the post FPCC: This certificate can only be signed by a consultant or equivalent. CREST: The CREST form was updated in September 2024 to include an applicant checklist. 2023 / 2024 CREST forms will be accepted for 2026 recruitment. If your certificate is signed by a clinician registered with any medical regulatory authority other than the GMC, a certified translation will be required. By the start of this post, a maximum of 12 months experience following Foundation training in UK or overseas. This must include a minimum of 6 months working in the NHS (Clinical attachments, observer ships, shadowing, or unpaid roles are not counted towards this experience).
