Summary
About the role Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is pleased to offer a 6-month fixed term hand fellowship aimed at a senior plastic surgery trainee who is nearing completion or has completed their training. This post is suited to trainees who would like more exposure to elective and trauma hand surgery before starting their consultant career. This post will be a combination of training, education, research and service delivery. Although this post is not a recognised UK training post, MYDoc doctor will have a named supervisor and will be expected to undertake activities to consolidate and support career progression. Introduction to the fellowship Our hand fellowship is designed to ensure the fellow is given opportunities to refine existing surgical skills, acquire new skills and build confidence to run an independent practice. The fellow will have weekly supervised clinics and operating lists and will be exposed to all aspects of elective and trauma hand surgery. The fellow will be expected to be competent in management of common plastics and burns emergencies. Main duties The main duties of the post will include: • Provision of care with responsibility for the management of patients with acute and chronic conditions including complex cases. • Referral of patients to other specialities as appropriate • Out-patient activities/clinics • Involvement in specialty and cross-specialty multi-disciplinary teams and meetings • Involvement in relevant administration duties • Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and other clinicians as appropriate • Active involvement in audit and clinical governance including service improvement activities Please see attached full job description for an example weekly timetable. Essential person specification requirements Full GMC Registration with licence to practise Medical Degree from recognised medical school MRCS or recognised equivalent Successful completion of post registration training FRCS (plast) - desirable Eligibility to work in the UK Minimum experience equivalent to ST8 in Plastic Surgery (10 years full-time post-graduate training - or part-time equivalent) Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving. Possesses good communication skills.
