As a tenancy sustainment officer, you will be responsible for managing a caseload, providing advice and guidance as part of a support plan to customers who are assessed as needing intervention to sustain their tenancy. Your role includes supporting area housing team staff to work effectively with customers to minimise the likelihood of tenancy failure, eviction or abandonment of the property. This will include providing support to people in their own homes with a range of issues that impact tenancies, to include, but not limited to, budgeting work; maximising income (incorporating practical support to make claims); signposting to debt advice services; charity applications; hoarding behaviour and supporting tenants with multiple and complex needs (including those with mental health and substance misuse issues).
In addition, it may be necessary for Tenancy Sustainment Officers to take the lead in compliance access cases where tenant’s complex needs present health and safety risks. You may also be required to attend child protection conferences, Best Interest Meetings and to use provisions of the Mental Capacity Act to support customers with their housing, linking in with dedicated Mental Health workers where appropriate.
It is essential you have substantial knowledge of the range of support services and welfare benefits available to tenants. You will also need to have in-depth knowledge of the causes of tenancy failure and the range of remedies available to prevent it.
Due to the current needs of the service, you need to be flexible and willing to work across various locations across the city. There may also be a requirement to co-locate with other services and agencies in the future.
For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Mark Wiles, Housing Tenancy Manager or Natalie Leaming, Senior Tenancy Officer on 01482 612 125 / 615 402 or email Mark.Wiles@hullcc.gov.uk or Natalie.Leaming@hullcc.gov.uk
Please ensure that your application demonstrates how you meet the essential criteria against the person specification as listed in the job description.
