Summary

Set within 574 acres of historic parkland, Hylands Estate is one of Chelmsford’s most treasured heritage assets, featuring the Grade II* listed Hylands House, the Stables, and the Grand Pavilion. As both a cultural destination and a thriving events venue, Hylands hosts weddings, corporate functions, private hire, community events, and major park attractions. Chelmsford City Council is proud to preserve this remarkable estate, ensuring it remains an exceptional place for visitors, partners, and staff alike.

We are seeking an Assistant Hylands Manager (Facilities and Event Operations) to support the efficient running of event operations, facilities, and maintenance across the events venues. The successful applicant will manage the Events Operations Team and Maintenance Operative, deliver excellent customer service, and ensure all buildings and infrastructure are maintained to Grade II* standards. With oversight of planned and reactive maintenance, health and safety compliance, digital systems, bar operations, and Duty Manager responsibilities, the successful applicant will play a key role in maintaining high standards and driving service improvements.

The ideal applicant will have experience in event operations or facilities management, strong people leadership skills, and a commitment to high-quality customer service. The successful applicant will bring good knowledge of health and safety, financial awareness, and strong planning and problem-solving abilities. Calm under pressure, motivated, and collaborative, the successful applicant will work confidently with staff at all levels and support the long-term preservation and growth of this heritage estate. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is essential, and applicants with management training, a personal licence, or experience with listed buildings are particularly welcomed.

Please note should sufficient applications be received prior to the closing date, we may close the role for applications early.
