What skills and experience we're looking for
York High School is seeking to recruit an Administration Assistant to join our busy, friendly administration team. We are looking for someone highly organised, self-motivated, solution focused and who welcomes the opportunity to use their initiative.
The role will contribute to the work of our Deep Support team, providing an administrative function to our attendance and pastoral teams. The role will also operate our Pupil Reception, and will be a first point of contact for pupils outside of lesson times and to assist with first aid.
The successful candidate will be adaptable, flexible and able to prioritise their workload to ensure targets are met. You will be able to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders, including staff, pupils, parents/carers and visitors. You will have experience of working in an administrative role and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Although experience of working in a school is desirable, what is more important is your genuine passion for working in a pupil-centred environment, ensuring pupils’ needs are always put first.
The nature of the role will require you to exercise discretion and respect confidentiality at all times.
The trust will be undertaking a job evaluation exercise in the near future and, therefore, the grade for this position may change.
We would strongly encourage any prospective candidate to visit the school. Please email Dawn Becton, PA to Principal and Office Manager, at d.becton@yorkhigh.elt.org.uk if you would like to arrange a visit.
Further details about our school are available on our school website: www.yorkhighschool.co.uk
An application form, job description and person specification are available on the Trust website: Careers - Excel Learning Trust
Please email applications to recruitment@elt.org.uk marked for the attention of Mr Gavin Kumar, Principal.
Interviews will be held during the week commencing 26 January 2026.
Excel Learning Trust reserves the right to close advertisements early. Advertisements will therefore close at midnight either on the advertised closing date, or at the point the decision has been taken to close the advertisement early. Applicants will be invited for interview once suitable applications are received, therefore early applications are strongly encouraged and advised.
