The Opportunity:
Long Term Futures are seeking an experienced and passionate Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to join a supportive and inclusive school in the Islington area.
You will play a strategic and hands-on role in leading SEND provision across the school, ensuring pupils with additional needs receive high-quality, personalised support that enables them to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified SENCO who is committed to inclusive practice and whole-school improvement.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the school's SEND provision in line with statutory requirements
- Coordinate the identification, assessment, and support of pupils with SEN
- Develop, implement, and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCPs
- Work closely with senior leaders, teaching staff, and support teams
- Liaise with parents/carers, external agencies, and local authorities
- Monitor pupil progress and evaluate the effectiveness of SEN interventions
- Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and safeguarding policies
- Provide guidance, training, and support to staff on inclusive practice
Requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to work towards it)
- Proven experience in a SENCO or SEN leadership role
- Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and current legislation
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills
- Commitment to inclusive education and improving outcomes for pupils with SEN
