An established, independently owned mixed animal practice is seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with a genuine enthusiasm for mixed practice to join its friendly and supportive team in rural North Yorkshire.
The practice is RCVS accredited and comprises a large, experienced veterinary team, with 20 vets across the business and 12 vets sharing the duty rota equally. The caseload is varied and stimulating, consisting of approximately 75% farm work, 5% equine work and 20% small animal practice.
The Role
This position offers a diverse and rewarding mix of clinical work. While the role can be tailored to reflect an individual’s particular interests and strengths, candidates must be comfortable working across all species, including out-of-hours duties.
The farm side of the practice benefits from a large and expanding client base, with a strong emphasis on routine fertility visits and herd health planning for both cattle and sheep. The practice utilises modern systems and services including Total Vet, Vet Impress, bull and ram fertility testing, and more.
Out-of-hours work is shared evenly across the 12-vet rota and includes both first and second call. A dedicated nurse is also on duty out of hours, providing excellent support during emergency situations.
Facilities and Team
The practice operates from new, spacious, purpose-built premises with a large farm dispensary. A recently built, state-of-the-art small animal surgery offers outstanding facilities, including:
• Two veterinary consulting rooms and a nurse consulting room
• A separate large operating theatre
• Large preparation area
• Dedicated radiography and ultrasound room
• Isolation ward
• Separate cat and dog kennels
Diagnostic and clinical equipment includes in-house biochemistry, a critical care analyser, endoscopy, digital radiography (also utilised for equine work), ECG, dental radiography and ultrasonography.
The veterinary team is described as friendly, experienced and collaborative, with regular in-house clinical meetings and case discussions. The practice is supported by a high-calibre nursing and support team, including qualified RVNs.
Location
The practice is based in a charming market town close to York, surrounded by beautiful countryside including the Yorkshire Moors and the Howardian Hills. Despite its rural setting, the location offers excellent access to main road and rail networks.
The Benefits
• Competitive salary up to £65,000, depending on experience
• RCVS and VDS fees paid
• Unlimited CPD budget
• Support and encouragement for further qualifications
• Internal CPD sessions
• Staff discounts on treatment for personal pets
• Favourable terms for a proactive and enthusiastic candidate
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon seeking a genuinely mixed role within a progressive, well-equipped and supportive independent practice.
