Job Purpose
To ensure food businesses comply with food safety and hygiene legislation.
To protect public health by monitoring food safety standards.
To carry out inspections, investigations, and enforcement actions where needed.
To provide advice and guidance to food business operators.
To support the council’s wider public health and regulatory objectives.
Job Description
Carry out routine and reactive food hygiene inspections of food premises.
Investigate complaints, food poisoning cases, and potential breaches of legislation.
Provide clear advice to businesses on food safety, hygiene, and legal compliance.
Take enforcement action, including notices and prosecutions, where required.
Maintain accurate records, reports, and inspection data in line with council procedures.
Person Specification / Requirements
Relevant qualification in Environmental Health or Food Safety (or equivalent).
Experience of food safety inspections and regulatory enforcement.
Good knowledge of food safety legislation and best practice.
Strong communication skills to deal with businesses and the public.
Ability to work independently, manage workload, and meet deadlines.
