A well‑established, privately owned main contractor with a strong regional and national presence is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead the delivery of major construction projects across the North West and wider UK.The business has built an excellent reputation for repeat business, particularly across public sector frameworks, and delivers complex projects across Education, Healthcare, commercial and industrial sectors, typically valued up to £25m. Known for its collaborative culture, hands‑on leadership team and long‑term investment in people, this contractor offers a genuine platform for career progression and influence at a senior level.
Your new role
As Operations Manager, you will take full operational responsibility for a portfolio of live and future projects, ensuring consistent standards of delivery, commercial performance and client satisfaction. A key element of the role will be the leadership and development of Contracts Managers and Site Managers, providing oversight, direction and support across multiple schemes.You will work closely with the Managing Director, Commercial team and Pre‑Construction department to ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme, to budget and in line with public sector procurement requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing multiple projects up to £25m in value across Education, Healthcare, Commercial and Industrial sectors
- Leading, mentoring and managing Contracts Managers and Site Managers
- Driving programme certainty, quality and compliance across all sites
- Ensuring a strong health & safety culture and adherence to public sector standards
- Supporting tender reviews, methodology input and risk management
- Acting as a senior point of contact for key clients and framework stakeholders
What you'll need to succeed
- Proven experience as an Operations Manager, Senior Contracts Manager or equivalent within a main contracting environment
- Strong track record delivering public sector projects (education, healthcare or similar)
- Experience managing and developing senior site and contracts teams
- Ability to oversee multiple complex projects simultaneously
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills
- SMSTS, CSCS and relevant construction or management qualifications
