Role : Head of Estates ( Mechanical/Engineering and Healthcare PFI specialist)Location : Coventry and Rugby
Job Overview :The Head of Estates will oversee the delivery of engineering and estates services across the Coventry and Rugby hospital sites, ensuring excellence in both day-to-day operations and long-term infrastructure planning. Applying a strong engineering background, the postholder will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant management of all building services, critical systems, and infrastructure, including capital projects and lifecycle management provision in line with the requirements of the PFI Facilities Management Agreement. They will produce comprehensive weekly and monthly estates reports for the Account Director, proactively identifying risks and maintaining an up-to-date risk register. This role is integral to supporting clinical services through resilient estate operations and will play a key part in advancing sustainability, capital investment, and lifecycle innovation across the estate.
Main duties :
-Lead all engineering and building services, ensuring statutory compliance, financial sustainability, and safe operations.
-Deliver annual capital, lifecycle, and PPM programmes in line with the PFI FM Agreement, minimising failures and deductions.
-Provide senior technical leadership, applying HTMs, HBNs, SFG20, CIBSE and statutory requirements.
-Deputise for the Account Director and support budget planning, value for money, and contract negotiations.
-Ensure sufficient Authorised/Responsible/Competent Persons and maintain full compliance with governance, IMS, audits, and statutory inspections.
-Oversee design, procurement, and delivery of capital and lifecycle projects, ensuring adherence to NHS standards and PFI change processes.
-Manage and develop staff, including H&S, appraisals, performance, training, and succession planning.
-Lead service improvement, sustainability, value engineering, and standardisation initiatives.
-Maintain operational policies, ensure compliance with Trust SFIs/SIs, and manage all H&S responsibilities.
-Provide PAM and ERIC data, support performance measurement, and maintain strong communication with the Client and Project Company.
-Build effective working partnerships and ensure staff are briefed on service development
What we are looking for :
-Degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Building Services)
-Must be a Charteed Engineer - or working towards
-Significant Senior level experience in healthcare estates
-Deep understanding of HTM,s NHS compliance and engineering systems
-Leadership, strategic planning, technical problem-solving, stakeholder engagement
