Crynodeb
The Children’s Neuromuscular service is part of the Oxford Muscle service and provides care and support for children and young people (CYP) diagnosed with neuromuscular disorders within the hospital and in the community and works in collaboration both with primary and paediatric specialist providers at other regional centres. The multi-disciplinary team facilitates diagnosis and treatment of children and young people with neuromuscular disorders, both as inpatient and outpatient, provide families, carers and young people appropriate education and support to manage their disorder, liaison with local health professionals and education setting to provide support on understanding the implication of a neuromuscular disorder on child, young person and family/carers. The service is regional service for paediatric neuromuscular disorders to a large geographical area including Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Wiltshire, Northamptonshire and Leicestershire.

This role focuses on delivering specialist nursing care to children and young people (CYP) with neuromuscular disorders, supporting them and their families across both acute and community settings. The nurse empowers families through education and health promotion, aiming to reduce the burden of care and improve understanding of conditions and treatments. Operating at an enhanced level of practice, the post holder will develop autonomy and expertise under the guidance of a multidisciplinary team and national networks. Responsibilities include providing clinical care, running a practitioner-led steroid clinic, and performing procedures such as venepuncture and cannulation (once competent). The role is designed to progress to a Band 7 position, supported by a structured development plan and supervision.
