The role
Looking for a person to manage NRWs data cataloguing and publishing tools (e.g. Discovery metadata catalogue/system and NBNAtlas/DataMapWales open data holdings) and play a key role in the Data Services Team.

This role is vital to deliver corporate plan objectives to make environmental and monitoring data openly available, supporting transparency, innovation, and better decision-making across Wales.

Successful applicant will
  • Administer NRWs data cataloguing tool Data Discovery
  • Administer Open Data catalogue on the NBNAtlas and support Open Data catalogue on DataMapWales.
  • Import, transform, validate, and quality-assure environmental data & metadata across various formats and systems.
  • Have experience of data cataloguing, publishing, and transformation tools and an understanding of relevant data standards (i.e. Gemini, MEDIN, ISO 19115, Darwin Core).
  • Communicating with and acting as a point of contact for customers and system developers and keeping the business informed of changes and updates.
  • Provide technical support and training to colleagues and other users.
  • Experience with database administration.
  • Have an understanding of data sensitivity, licensing, and legal compliance.

This will help ensure that our data follows the FAIR principles-Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable-supporting our commitment to share information openly and transparently.

You will use expertise in environmental and biological data to write, enter and catalogue information about our datasets and assess and transform datasets for publishing, using tools like FME and PowerBI.

An opportunity to develop skills in computer languages such as XML or SQL and an enthusiasm and ability to learn new technical skills and understand database and data structures.

Will need to be enthusiastic about environmental data, have attention to detail and ability to deliver tasks accurately to a deadline, strong technical and communication skills. Will have a proactive approach to helping and supporting colleagues and communicate the important of tracking, cataloguing and publishing our data holdings.

We are based across Wales, so some travel is required to attend training or team events.
