What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic School Counsellor to provide a confidential, specialist counselling service to support our students and staff.
About us
Hawkley Hall High School is a high-performing, oversubscribed secondary school in Wigan, graded “Good” in all areas by Ofsted in November 2024. We pride ourselves in our strong learning culture, positive ethos and commitment to continuous improvement, through our values of Respect, Honesty and Kindness.
The Role
As a School Counsellor, you will:
• Deliver individual and group counselling sessions for students.
• Work collaboratively with the Designated Safeguarding Lead, pastoral team, and external agencies.
• Maintain accurate records and provide reports when required.
• Act as the primary point of contact for CAMHS and liaise with parents and staff.
• Contribute to assemblies and student wellbeing initiatives.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
• A recognised Diploma in Counselling and UK Counselling Practitioners Registration.
• Excellent communication and listening skills.
• Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.
• Knowledge of child protection legislation.
• Empathy and commitment to supporting young people.
Desirable:
• Previous experience working in a school.
