Would you like to join a busy team that delivers a range of parking schemes and solutions in the Boroughs of Richmond and Wandsworth? Are you an enthusiastic and hard-working person who likes to work in a challenging and demanding environment?


Working in the Parking Policy Team within the Better Service Partnership (the shared public service team), you will be primarily progressing requests for parking bays for those with disabilities and for doctor surgeries. There will be an opportunity for you to assist the team in dealing with other parking matters including various aspects of controlled parking zones. In managing the workload in the post, a good understanding of, and approach to, managing projects is required.


You will have good communicative skills to deal with our residents and businesses, Council members and Members of Parliament across both Boroughs and be able to carry out site visits and attend Council meetings as required in the role.

About The Role

  • Awareness of local government processes and procedures- You will need to have a good understanding of how Councils deliver their range of services and especially how parking bays / schemes are progressed/delivered. This includes the democratic processes followed and how consultation plays its part in how decisions are reached on whether to implement new parking bays / schemes.
  • Regulatory Compliance/Knowledge- You need to demonstrate that you have a good overview of the legal requirements Councils must follow, including the advertisement and making of Traffic Management Orders, in delivering parking bays / schemes.
  • Communication-Good communication skills are vital in the role using current software packages such as Outlook and MS Teams as well as being able to discuss parking issues on the telephone and directly with customers.
  • Financial management / budget- You will need to have a good understanding of the importance of managing budgets / costs in the progression of parking schemes and being prepared to analyse certain numerical data.
  • Site work- There will be a need to undertake site work to as part of the assessment process for applications for parking bays / schemes and so access to a car is desirable but not essential. Some of this site work will need to be carried out outside normal working hours.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Preferably a degree or HND and at least 2 years relevant post qualification experience or BTEC Stage 3 and at least 4 years relevant experience or Minimum of 5 years relevant parking control and / or Traffic Order making experience.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and/or as part of a team to meet deadlines
  • Good written and verbal communications skills
  • Numerate with ability to analyse data
