The Role
We are recruiting for the role of Technical Assistant (Education and Engineering) to join our technical service as part of an integrated University-wide technical team. The postholder will have the opportunity to make an impact as part of the established team supporting the practical areas within the newly opened Sustainable Engineering and Technology Centre (SETEC), which is part of the School of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment, and within the School of Education.

Key responsibilities will include contributing to the day-to-day running and maintenance of the teaching workshops and the labs, preparation and setting out of equipment for practical teaching, supporting staff and students in the use of specialist resources and shared responsibility for safely clearing away resources at the end of taught sessions. You will ensure that materials are ordered, prepared, and available to support practical teaching, and you should display a good working knowledge of health and safety in a technical environment.

The successful candidate will ideally have skills and experience in a range of practical and technical skills, including 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC operation, and the use of design & technology and food technology equipment and machinery, and operating fabrication workshop machinery to support the labs but full training will be provided. The role supports Engineering and the Built Environment courses within Sustainable Engineering and Technology Centre (SETEC), as well as practical activity within the School of Education. You will be flexible and proactive with a hands-on approach. You will have experience of delivering excellent customer service with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Previous experience of providing technical support in a similar environment is desirable.

This position is available full time, but applications for term-time only will also be considered.
