Crynodeb
This role is a new role within the department of Neurology & Stroke; the appointed candidate(s) will join an existing team of 14 senior medical staff including Consultants & SAS doctors. On joining the department, you will become part of a well-established, friendly team and will help us continue to drive forward improvements in the service that we provide to our patients. As a senior member of the team, you will become a key part in the delivery of training and supervision to our junior colleagues. The Trust’s Health and Wellbeing team has won a National Award during 2020 for the work they have done locally.
This 18-month fixed term post will work closely with a team of Consultant Neurologists and Clinical Nurse specialists, the post holder will be expected to initiate and provide sound clinical/medical practices to patients under the care of the Neurology team, mostly in outpatient clinics but also if they admitted under other general medical teams. The post will also include clinical involvement in the acute stroke service.
The Duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service.
Clinical Duties:
· Patient assessment both in clinic and when reviewing ward-referrals
· Drug prescription in clinic, for ward patients
· Undertake patient reviews for other in-patient teams
· Trouble shoot patients on the ward
· Participate in ward rounds with the Consultants
· Ward rounds on the Acute Stroke ward
· Front door assessment of acute stroke patients including thrombolysis

As well as the clinical duties above, the successful candidate will be required to:
· Liaise with patient families to discuss the patient’s progress, goals and achievable outcomes.
· Provide information to patients and family in a way that they can understand.
· Co-ordinate with nursing and ward staff.
· Maintain an open and honest dialogue with the Pharmacist, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists.
Planning & Organisation:
· You will be expected to attend departmental meetings.
· You will be expected to attend weekly radiology meetings to discuss difficult cases.
