1. Job Overview
As an SEN TA, you are the "bridge" between a child with additional needs and their education.

The Goal: Help students with disabilities (Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, etc.) access the curriculum.

The Day-to-Day: You work 1-on-1 or in small groups, adapting lessons so the child can understand them and managing their emotional or behavioral needs.

The Setting: You can work in a Mainstream School (supporting a child in a regular class) or a Special School (where all students have complex needs).

Observation: Noticing "triggers" before a child becomes distressed.

4. Qualifications
GCSEs: Grades 4/C or above in English and Maths (most common requirement).

Level 2 or 3 Certificate: In Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (highly preferred).

Specialist Certificates: Training in Autism Awareness, Makaton (sign language), or PECS makes you a top candidate.

Experience: Volunteering or prior care work is often accepted in place of higher degrees.
