Crynodeb
To support the team leader and Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) in the management of a caseload. This will include the assessment and delivery of care needs, and the development and evaluation of programmes of care for children and young people who have a comfirmed diagnosis of epilepsy. To act up in the absence of the team leader/caseload holder and be responsible for maintaining agreed policies and clinical standards in accordance with agreed criteria. Assist in the development of the management and development of a designated area of practice in conjunction with the team leader. Clinical functions To assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of epilepsy care in accordance with the Trusts agreed clinical standards. Provide education and information to the child/young personand their families/carers around epilepsy related issues including, individualised management plans; safety; lifestyle choices; education; social impacts. To promote clinical excellence through the principles of the Trusts philosophy. To support the team leader in ensuring the compliance of quality assurance initiatives. To participate in the identification of the health needs of the child and young person nursed in the community and to work in close liaison with other health care and multi-agency workers to adopt a multi-disciplinary approach to health care. To work closely with hospital colleagues to create seamless care. To develop the role of the Childrens Epilepsy Nurse Specialist in accordance with the needs of the client group, the service and the NMC. To be responsible for a defined area of practice as agreed by the team leader/manager. Prescribe treatment for children and young people with epilepsy within their clinical competence, relevant qualification and the remit of the service. To involve parents, carers, children and young people and encourage them to makeinformed choices concerning their health and wellbeing.
