Waking Night Support Worker – Children’s Residential Home
Salary: £25,000 to 26,500
Location: Birmingham
Hours: Full-time, permanent
Shift Pattern: Waking nights on a rolling rota

We are looking for Waking Night Support Workers to join our dedicated team, ensuring the home remains safe, secure and nurturing throughout the night for the young people living with us.

About the Role
As a Waking Night Support Worker, you will be responsible for the night-time care, supervision and safety of young people aged 8–17. You will create a calm, reassuring and structured environment, responding to the needs of young people and supporting them with emotional or practical issues during the night.
You will also ensure the home is well-maintained, completing routines, checks, logs and light household tasks to support the smooth running of the service.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide overnight supervision, care and emotional support for young people.
• Ensure the home environment is safe, secure and monitored in line with safeguarding and regulatory requirements.
• Respond appropriately to incidents, emotional distress or behavioural needs during the night.
• Carry out scheduled night-time checks, health & safety checks, and monitoring tasks.
• Complete accurate nightly logs, records and handovers for day staff.
• Support young people with routines such as bedtime, settling, and morning preparation if required.
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of communal areas, completing light household tasks.
• Follow care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support strategies consistently.
• Work collaboratively with night and day staff to ensure continuity of care.
• Remain alert and awake throughout all shifts (this is a waking night position).

Essential Requirements
• Experience working with children or young people (residential care, education, youth work or similar).
• Understanding of safeguarding and supporting young people with emotional or behavioural needs.
• Willingness to work towards QCF Level 3 in Residential Childcare (if not already held).
• Ability to remain awake and attentive throughout all night shifts.
• Full driving licence preferred.
