Summary

Assistant Head of Curriculum - Engineering

Newcastle College's innovative and forward-thinking Engineering department is seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Head of Curriculum to help drive high-quality teaching, outstanding learner experience and continuous improvement across our provision.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a department that is growing, ambitious, and committed to delivering industry-relevant engineering education at all levels. You will play a key role in supporting the Head of Curriculum to lead curriculum development, quality improvement, staff performance, and the operational delivery of programmes that inspire learners and meet the needs of employers.

About the Role

The Assistant Head of Curriculum will lead the day-to-day operational implementation of curriculum strategy across General Engineering. You will:

  • Ensure a high-quality learning experience through effective planning, monitoring and quality assurance.
  • Lead and support a team of lecturing staff, and support colleagues to deliver excellent teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Use data and performance indicators to drive improvements in retention, achievement and progression.
  • Support recruitment activity and help the department achieve learner number targets.
  • Promote strong attendance, positive behaviours and the development of employability skills in all learners.
  • Work closely with the Head of Curriculum to build and maintain strong relationships with employers, partners and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to curriculum planning, innovation and future growth opportunities.

About You

We are looking for someone who brings leadership, creativity and a passion for engineering education. You should be able to demonstrate:

  • Proven experience of leading teams to achieve excellent outcomes.
  • A commitment to innovation, continuous improvement and high standards.
  • Ability to inspire, challenge and support colleagues at all levels.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage complex operational demands.
  • Experience delivering successful outcomes across further education, apprenticeships, adult learning and/or higher education within the engineering sector.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence building positive internal and external partnerships.
