Summary

Clinical Responsibilities A full-time post-holder would be expected to undertake 4 neurology clinics each week (4 hours), and to see an average of 5 new patients and 6 follow-ups in each clinic. We would encourage colleagues to develop specialty clinics, provided that they are of clinical relevance to the service and local needs. There is a commitment to adequate levels of secretarial cover on each site. Consultants are provided with sufficient office space and IT support. We provide five-day ward consultation services on both sites. Consultants participate in a rota to see ward referrals at the QEH. Full time colleagues usually do 1-2 days of ward cover a week. We endeavour to see all referrals within 24 hours of referral. The workload varies but a reasonable expectation would be to see an average of 4-6 ward patients per session. There is currently no on-call commitment. Medical Education & Teaching Candidates are expected to contribute to departmental educational meetings and clinical supervision of doctors in training. There is a commitment to teaching of neurology to GSTT undergraduates in both formal tutorial sessions as well as in clinic/on ward rounds, foundation doctors, Core Medical Trainees and GP Registrars in turn with other colleagues in the department Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance Undertake or supervise clinical audit and comply with Clinical Governance requirements Continuing Professional Development Participate in continuing professional development at local and national level. Implement audit and research findings as appropriate in clinical practice: Prepare and participate in an annual appraisal in accordance with Trust policy, in line with the Trusts commitment to supporting revalidation. A willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels. Colleagues are encouraged to attend Kings College Hospital in person or virtually to participate in their Academic neuroscience programme on a Friday morning. The Trust is committed to providing mentoring to newly appointed consultants. Policy, Planning and Management Support the Trust to deliver quality patient care. Contribute to the development of clinical and organisational protocols and guidelines. Assist in the development of the Annual Service Plan for the Directorate and Division and participate in the strategic planning of the service. Comply with all Trust policies.
