Decontamination Technician
Department Endoscopy
Band 3 £24,937 - £26,598 per annum
Hours: 37.5 per week – (+ On-call commitment)
All MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working.
The Department is operational from 7am – 8pm over a 6 day shift system. Your typical hours will be one week of earlies and one week of lates and the successful applicant will need to be able to work flexible shifts covering these hours. There will also be the occasional 8pm finish when on late shift.
The Department runs an on-call service and you would be required to participate fully in the out of hours on-call rota (contracted to one week in every four).
The role involves efficiently providing the correct handling, cleaning, decontamination maintenance and security of flexible endoscopes and related equipment.
No previous experience is required for this role as on ongoing training programme is in operation.

Based in the Endoscopy Department the post holder will be part of a team of technicians responsible for the reprocessing of Endoscopes and associated medical devices to include the automated Endoscopy reprocessors and accessories.
The post holder will adhere to all standards and policies relevant to the working area.
There may be a requirement to work within the Sterile Services Department once trained

Responsibilities for patient/client care
• To decontaminate flexible endoscopes for use in operating theatres and Endoscopy.
• To supply products to specified areas in agreed quantities and to specified properties and cleanliness
Responsibility for policy and service development implementation
• Ensure that staff acts in accordance with all departmental policies and procedures.
• To support the requirements of new developments and services in response to their needs, national targets, policy or developments.
Responsible for financial and physical resources
• Assisting in restocking supplies and recording any information required.
• Keeping areas clean and tidy to maintain a safe, pleasant environment.
Responsible for human resources
• To monitor compliance with dress code, maintenance of the clean working environment.
• Support new employees in the department.
Responsible for information resources
• Are responsible for completing all forms which form part of the ISO 13485 accreditation ensuring all forms are completed in a timely manner and any anomalies reported.
Responsible for research and development
• Expected to support registered auditors and internal auditors by being audited against quality standards.
• May occasionally take part in trials or equipment testing
Freedom to act
• Works autonomously by participating in the on call rota providing 24/7 emergency cover on a scheduled basis.
• Responsible for supervision of external partners (i.e. Gutcare) who work in the department outside of normal practice.
