Decontamination Technician (Whitehouse)
Department Endoscopy
Band 3 £24,937 - £26,598 Per annum, pro rata
Hours; 15 hours per week (Monday & Tuesday- from 12.00 -20.00)All MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working
The Decontamination Unit provides a vital service reprocessing surgical instruments for use in all wards and departments within the trust.
You will be involved in the cleaning, inspecting, assembling, packing, sterilising and distributing surgical equipment for supply to Wards, Departments, Theatres and Endoscopy.
Successful candidates will require attention to detail & an eagerness and ability to learn.
A comprehensive in house training programme is in operation which successful candidates will be expected to take part in and complete.
The role is physically demanding, lifting and handling heavy instrument sets and long periods of standing. It is necessary to transport theatre equipment around the hospital using trolleys.
As a clinical support service the department is operational 6 days a week, supported by an on-call service to meet the demands of the hospital
The unit is compliant to ISO13485 Quality Management System. Previous experience working with a Quality System is desirable but not essential.

Based in the Endoscopy Department the post holder will be part of a team of technicians responsible for the reprocessing of Endoscopes and associated medical devices to include the automated Endoscopy reprocessor’s and accessories.
The postholder will adhere to all standards and policies relevant to the working area.
There may be a requirement to work within the Sterile Services Department once trained.

Main duties and responsibilities
• To work in all production areas of the department.
• To be responsible for final product release.
• To monitor compliance with dress code, maintenance of the clean working environment.
• To decontaminate flexible endoscopes for use in operating theatres and Endoscopy.
• To supply products to specified areas in agreed quantities and to specified properties and cleanliness.
• To inspect and assemble flexible scopes according to the agreed specification.
• To ensure by examination that products have met the required standards.
• To maintain delivery schedules according to the contract agreement.
• To deal with telephone enquires as necessary in a concise and appropriate manner, recording all relevant information and acting as appropriate.
• Ensure verbal and written communication is maintained within the departments.
